Winx Club AU (also known as Winx AU) is an AU (Alternate Universe) within the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom. In the AU, Rapunzel, Merida, Hiccup and Jack Frost are placed in the world of Winx Club. This can be considered an offshoot of Fairies AU.

About the AU[]

Spawning from fanart, this AU places the Big Four, and other such characters in the fandom, as students that attend one of the three main schools that teaches people how to master their abilities as Fairies at Alfea, Specialists at Red Fountain and Witches at Cloud Tower. They can also be portrayed as characters from the Winx franchise.

Featured Characters[]

The Big Four[]

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]

With Hiccup being a male that has skills in riding and taming dragons, as well as keeping his home island safe from dangers with his friends, he can easily be placed as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. While a female version of Hiccup can be placed as a Fairy that is a student at Alfia with dragon-like powers, since fans sometimes feature Hiccup as a dragon, give him dragon-like abilities or infuse him with Toothless in hybrid related crossovers and AUs. Additionally, his connection to dragons may cast him as a male version of Bloom, the Fairy of the Dragon Flame.

Jack Frost[]

Jack being a Guardian of Childhood could place him as a Specialist that attends Red Fountain (as blue and white are one the two colors that are on their school, combat uniforms). North can be one of his teaches that took a shine to Jack and helps him with his training. While a female version of Jack can be placed as a Fairy that is a student at Alfia with ice powers. However, since wizards are also a possibility in the Winx Universe, it is possible for Jack to be cast as an ice wizard to stay in canon with his magic abilities. Tying in with the wizard role, it is also possible to cast him as a male version of Icy, the Witch of Ice (since Jack's Dark AU counterparts helps to portray him as villain characters).

Merida DunBroch[]

Merida can be portrayed as Bloom, the Fairy of the Dragon Flame for their fiery red hair, stubbornness, and royal blood. They are both brave, and loyal to their friends and family. Merida can also be portrayed as Aisha, the Fairy of Waves (sometimes known as Layla) for their royal blood, rebelliousness and their stubbornness (as well as living in a castle near the ocean). They are both fighters and are known to be athletic.

When she is not portrayed as a member of the Winx Club, Merida can be a fairy who is a student at Alfia with Fire powers. As it is the element that she is commonly given in element related crossovers and AUs. The flames of her magic can sometime be blue, so it could serve as a reference to her encounters with the Wisps. Merida can also be given earth related powers, as well as having powers can she can use her archery skills with. However, since Merida canonically lacks any mystical powers but is still incredibly skilled at fighting, it is likely she’d make a good fit for a female Specialist.

Rapunzel Corona[]

Rapunzel can be portrayed Stella, the Fairy of the Shining Sun for their connections to the sun and their royal blood. They are both beautiful, talkative, carefree and loyal. She can also be portrayed as Flora, the Fairy of Nature for their connections with nature. The two are kind, loyal, intelligent and sweet and Flora also has healing magic which Rapunzel also has in her hair. She can also be cast as Bloom, the Fairy of the Dragon Flame, because they are both powerful young women who are lost princesses. Pascal can replace Kiko as Rapunzel's loyal pet, or could serve as her Fairy Pet.

When not portraying a member of the Winx, Rapunzel can be a fairy who is a student at Alfia with powers of light and healing or of nature, in homage to the SunDrop Flower, a magical flower which was created by a single drop of sunlight, which represents life and light. Because of her connection to nature and the Sun, she can also be cast as the Fairy of the Sun, which gives her powers of the sun, light, healing, and life (such as bringing nature to life or bringing someone back to life). In some fanfics, her hair only grows to its long length when she is in fairy mode. Her magical Golden hair and it’s healing properties could even be a sub-power.

Extra Characters[]

The Guardians[]

Since the Guardians are tasked with keeping the children of the world safe and are magical beings, they could easily be placed in the world of Winx. As teachers at one of the many magical schools, or as any of the wise protectors, people and creatures that the members of Winx turn to for help. North and Bunnymund would most likely be teachers at Red Fountain, while Toothiana and possibly Sandy would teach at Alfea. Because Tooth is kind hearted and already a fairy (ish), she could also be cast as Headmistress Faragonda or simply the headmistress of Alfea.

Vanellope von Schweetz[]

Since Vanellope is made out of code and Sugar Rush (along with the other games at Litwak's Arcade) is a digital-like realm, then an older version of her could serve as Tecna, the Fairy of Technomagic. Being the Princess of Sugar Rush could also portray her as one of the three royal members of Winx; like Bloom (as both were unaware of their royal "blood"), Stella (as they both enjoy having fun whenever they can) or as Aisha (as the two are rebellious in their own way). While her dark hair and wearing it back could even portray her as Musa, the Fairy of Music as both girls enjoy doing what they love and are best at, racing and playing music.

When she is not portrayed as a member of the Winx Club, then Vanellope can be a fairy who is a student at Alfia with digital powers. Sugar Rush's sugary theme could even give her powers that involve sweets or other sugary food, while being a racer could even give Vanellope power that is connected to speed. Since Vanellope is too young to attend Alfia, fans often place an older and teenage version of Vanellope in this AU to make it easier for her to be apart of it. Because she is princess of world filled with sweets and candy, she can also be portrayed as a fairy with candy or sweet-related powers.

Queen Elsa[]

Because of Elsa's ice powers and was originally set to be the villain in one of the earlier layouts of Frozen, fans see her as Icy, an ice wielding witch that is the eldest member of Trix. A trio of witches that are descended from the Ancestral Witches, the most powerful and evil of all witches to have ever existed. While being of royal blood can portray Elsa as one of the three royal and heir to their realm members of Winx; Bloom (as blue was Bloom's color for a time), Stella (as both girls are blond) or as Aisha (for their home castle's being next to the sea).

When not portraying a member of the Winx, Elsa can be a fairy who is a student at Alfea with powers of ice, snow or of wind (because of the snow storm that she unknowably made and to possibly reference her encounter with the wind spirit Gale from Frozen II). Her original villain role, in one of the earlier layouts of Frozen, could even make her a witch that is a student at Cloud Tower, but later went to become a fairy at Alfia (much like Mirta at the end of the first season of Winx Club). She could also have powers over the elements, which symbolizes how she tamed the four elements of the Enchanted Forest and how she became one of them (although ice would be her main power).

Princess Anna[]

Anna can be portrayed as Aisha, the Fairy of Waves (sometimes known as Layla) for their royal blood, had spent their childhood along and doing what they can to save those they care about. She can also be portrayed as Flora, the Fairy of Nature or as Stella, the Fairy of the Shining Sun as Anna is seen as the warm, summer version of her older sister. As well as Anna being given power over Earth or Fire in the Elements AU.

When she is not portrayed as a member of the Winx Club, Anna can be a fairy who is a student at Alfea with Fire or Earth powers. She could even be given power over ice or water due to Frozen's icy theme. Sometimes she is cast a fairy with summer or spring powers, which puts her in contrast to her sister. Because of her role as the Thawing Love that helped her sister an end to the eternal winter, Anna can also be featured as a fairy with power over Love, either as romantic love, friendly love, or family love. A sub-power she would have could be bringing the warmth from her heart to the people and world around her, melting even the coldest of winters.

Moana Waialiki[]

Moana can be portrayed as Aisha, the Fairy of Waves (sometimes known as Layla) for the way they wear their hair, rebelliousness, stubborn and live close to water. They are also willing to face and fight the danger that threatens their people. She can also be portrayed as Flora, the Fairy of Nature as the bond that Moana formed with Te Fiti and keeping her heart safe gives her a connection to nature.

When she is not portrayed as a member of the Winx Club, Moana can be a fairy who is a student at Alfia with Water powers. She could also be given power over Earth for the friendship she formed with the Island Goddess, or of Wind and Air for the wind that the sail of her boat catches. She could also be cast as Fairy of the Ocean, due to her love of the sea and her connection to it.

Violet Parr[]

Violet could be portrayed as Musa, the Fairy of Music for their long dark hair. When not apart of the Winx, Violet could be cast as the Fairy of Invisibility or Protection (in homage to her superhero powers).

Penny Forrester[]

Penny could be portrayed as Tecna, the Fairy of Technomagic for their short, cut hair and with Penny being shown to have skills in computers and carrying many gadgets with her in the world of the Bolt TV Show.

When she is not portrayed as a member of the Winx Club, Penny could be cast as a fairy with spy-like powers or animal powers, in homage to her love of animals.

Tip Tucci[]

Fans see an older version of Tip as Aisha, the Fairy of Waves (sometimes known as Layla) due to the shade of their skin and how they wear their hair. Both girls are also shown to be rebellious and stubborn, as well as given those that have crossed them a piece of their mind. In a non-Winx member way, her interactions with an intergalactic entity can place her as a fairy with space-like powers.

Fairies[]

Since fairies are strongly part of Winx, the fairy characters in the fandom (like Toothiana, her bird-like fairies, Tinker Bell and the rest of the small, winged characters from Disney Fairies), can be placed as the Fairies and Pixies that reside in the world and universe of Winx Club.

Some of the young fairy characters, like Tinker Bell and her friends, can be students that attend Alfia, with the Overseer Fairies, like Fairy Mary, Fairy Gary, Dewey and the four Fairy Ministers of the seasons, as the teachers, while Queen Clarion serves as the school's headmistress. The small size of Toothiana's fairies, and the bond that Baby Tooth formed with Jack, can place the green bird-like fairies as Pixies. The Pixie Hollow fairies can also be cast as Pixies when their home is used as a base/template of the Pixie Village, while their Pixie Dust Tree is featured as one of the magical trees that reside in the village; or as one of the many magical tress and plants in the Winx series.

Dragons[]

Since dragons are part of the world of Winx (in both specie, magical abilities and items), they can easily serve and be portrayed as some of the known ally and foe dragons from the Winx Club series. Dragons with riders, like Toothless and Hookfang, can be featured as the Red Fountain dragons, when their male or female genderbend riders are placed as the specialists that attend the all-boy boarding school. While the dragon riders that are featured as fairies or witches, are able to use and cast dragon-like spells and abilities, like the Dragon Flame.

Mavis Dracula[]

Mavis's dark clothing and background can have her as a witch who is a student at Cloud Tower. Her powers as a witch would most likely be vampire-related.

Prince Hans[]

Hans being a male and has fighting skills, can have him as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. As some of their students are royals. In some versions he can be cast as Valtor, for their evil intentions and manipulative personality.

Stalyan[]

Stalyan's dark clothing and background, like her following her father's criminal footsteps, can have her as a witch who is a student at Cloud Tower, or she could still be cast as a thief.

Cassandra[]

Although Cassandra is not very positive or fairy like, she could still be cast as one. If she is apart of the Winx, Cassandra could be cast as Aisha for their tough exterior. When not apart of the Winx, she can be cast a fairy with warrior-like powers, or as the first female Specialist at Red Fountain (with her adopted father acting as headmaster or a teacher). In some fanfics she is still cast as a handmaiden and bodyguard to Rapunzel, making sure she stayed safe while at Alfea. There are also a few fans who have Cassandra as a fairy of the Moon, due to her dark personality and contrast to Rapunzel. Because she betrayed Rapunzel, she could be cast as a fairy-turned-witch with powers over the Black Rocks and the Moonstone Opal, or the Moon itself. Because she reforms, she’d return to whatever role she had before.

Flynn Rider[]

Because of his warrior prowess and fighting skills, Flynn can be cast as a Specialist, or still keep his role as a thief.

Honeymaren[]

Since Honeymaren is part of the Northuldra, a forest dwelling tribe who live with nature spirts and has a warrior prowess, she can be cast as a Fairy of Nature or Elements, or maybe even as a Fairy with Warrior-like magic.

Mother Gothel[]

Because Mother Gothel is already called a witch (due to her association with magic), she could be a teacher or headmistress at Cloud Tower or a full-fledged witch. Her kidnapping Rapunzel as a baby could be seen as Gothel attempting to not only stay young forever (since her own magic isn’t as strong as Rapunzel's), but to drain Rapunzel of her power in order to become the most powerful witch there is.

Varian[]

Varian (despite not being used often) could be the technician or engineer of the Specialists, creating new gadgets for them or working on their hoverboards rather than actually fighting. His work would often be mistaken as Magic, causing him to be called a Wizard rather than an alchemist. Because of this, he could also be portrayed as an actual wizard.

Prince Merlin[]

Prince Merlin is one of the seven who protect Fairy Isle from dragons and other such dangers that heroes like him face in a magical fairy tale world, he can easily be placed as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. Since a few of the school's students are royals.

Prince Arthur[]

Prince Arthur (from Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs) is one of the seven who protect Fairy Isle from dragons and other such dangers that heroes like him face in a magical fairy tale world, he can easily be placed as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. Since a few of the school's students are royals.

Prince Jack[]

Prince Jack is one of the seven who protect Fairy Isle from dragons and other such dangers that heroes like him face in a magical fairy tale world, he can easily be placed as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. Since a few of the school's students are royals.

Prince Hans (Red Shoes)[]

Prince Hans (from Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs) is one of the seven who protect Fairy Isle from dragons and other such dangers that heroes like them face in a magical fairy tale world, he can easily be placed as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. Since a few of the school's students are royals.

Princes Pino, Noki and Kio[]

The triplet princes, Pino, Noki and Kio are three of the seven who protect Fairy Isle from dragons and other such dangers that heroes like them face in a magical fairy tale world, they can easily be placed as Specialists at the Red Fountain boarding school. Since a few of the school's students are royals.

Justin[]

Justin's dream to become a knight and the training he went through to become one can easily place him as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. The three wise, elderly men who over saw his training, and have trained others before him, can serve as teachers at the said school.

Zoe[]

Zoe's punk style clothing and is a witch from the world of Tales of Arcadia, she can quite easily be featured as a witch who is a student at Cloud Tower. While Morgana could serve as one of her teachers at the dark magic school for girls.

Jim Lake Jr.[]

Jim's male gender and the way him becoming the Trollhunter had Jim learning how to fight any foes he come across and how to defend himself and others, he can easily be as a Specialist at the Red Fountain boarding school. Even though some have already placed Jim as a Fairy, for fun and with them being the main focused group of the whole Winx series.

Isabela Madrigal[]

Due to her magical gift over plants, Isabela can easily fit the role of Flora, Fairy of Nature (more so in Fate: The Winx Saga, due to being similar in terms of having immense power and knowledge of plant life while also being extroverted and more on the rebellious side). However, her former stuck up nature and “perfect princess” routine could also potentially cast her as Stella, Fairy of the Shining Sun (which would tie in nicely to her power over plant life). In AU's without her filling any of the Winx's roles, Isabela is easily cast as a Nature Fairy.

Dolores Madrigal[]

Having the ability to hear all around her gives Dolores a direct connection to sound, so it is possible to give her Fairy Powers relating to this sense. However, since her gift causes her immense discomfort (such as overwhelming sensations and unintentionally invading other people’s privacy without their or her consent) and causes her to be an introverted and closeted off individual, it is possible to cast Dolores as a Mind Fairy/Musa (in the reboot) whose main strength lies in her hearing (potentially their thoughts, in some AUs).

Mirabel Madrigal[]

Despite her status as the only one of the Madrigals to be without a magical gift, it is not uncommon for fans to create AUs where Mirabel does obtain a gift of her own, so there are several roles for Mirabel to take as a fairy. A common example would place her as the Fairy of Miracles (in homage to her family’s miracle), Butterflies (in homage to her film’s common theme and family’s insignia [this would especially fit well with the 8th season of Winx transformation Butterflix]), or even powers that her own relatives already have. Additionally, her connection to the Miracle Candle could also cast her as a Fire Fairy, or her personality being similar to the assigned personal traits of to water (fitting the theme thread as the river where she mends her bond with her grandmother) may also cast her as a Water Fairy. Since she is an empathetic person who loves to help the people she cares for, it’s possible to cast Mirabel as a Fairy Godmother-in-training. Likewise, this empathy and ability to connect with people emotionally could grant Mirabel the role of a Mind Fairy.

However, because of the Aesop of her film being that she is special without a magical gift, Mirabel could easily fill the role of a normal, magic-less human who can still provide support for her more magical allies.
