―Violet Parr

Violet Parr is a member of the Parr Family and, by extension, the Incredibles.

Appearance[]

Violet is a beautiful 14-year-old teenage girl. She is 4'6 in height and weighs 90 pounds. She has raven black hair, dark violet-blue eyes, she describes herself as having a gangly physique. At the beginning of the movie, her appearance gives off a moody vibe. She has an oversized dark blue sweater, dark blue jeans, and her hair covering an eye, along with one quarter of her other eye. However, after apologizing to her mother on the island, she wears the mask, showing her entire face.

At the end of the film, she now wears brighter clothing, including a pink hairband, a pink polo shirt, tan khakis and white shoes. Violet's super-suit is a red unitard with a yellow, orange and black "i" insignia on the chest, along with an orange elastic waistband and headband, a black mask, black bottoms and thigh-high black boots.

Personality[]

At first, Violet is shy and timid, and, stuck at the cross-roads between girl and woman, Violet desperately wants to be like everyone else, to blend in with normal people and not to stand out. However, after saving the town from Syndrome and the Omnidroid, she became more more outgoing. Violet loves her family and even though she constantly butts heads with Dash, she cares for him very much. She is concerned for the well-being of her family, so she always tries very hard to help them. In her personal life, Violet enjoys listening to music and reading fashion magazines.

In Incredibles 2, Violet has embraced her powers and displays a broader range of emotions that is typical of a girl her age: Throwing tantrums, acting awkward and at times being depressive. She also begins to develop a taste for superhero action, expressing her newfound desire to help protect the populace like her parents, but grows frustrated when denied the opportunity. Unfortunately, this interest begins to flip-flop when it messes with her personal life, such as making Tony forget her superhero identity (and her, by extension), and her parents continue to hold her back on the sidelines, so it is expected by a teenager controlled by her emotions to lash out a little. However, she ultimately develops a sense of maturity when she realizes she isn’t entirely ready yet to be a superhero, and begins to appreciate the sacrifices her parents do for her and her brothers. She ends the film taking baby steps into balancing her impending future as a hero and civilian identity as Violet Parr, starting with her accepting her given roles in missions and reproaching Tony as a start-over.

According to the director’s cut, her powers are reflective of her personality and meant to befit a teenager like her. Her invisibility is a trait commonly reflected in introverted teenagers who just want to “disappear,” and her force fields are a literal defense mechanism people her age are known for developing.

Powers and Abilities[]

Violet has the ability to render herself wholly or partially invisible at will, she cannot turn her normal clothing invisible, and can only turn her whole self-invisible when wearing her super-suit, which is constructed of a material that turns invisible when she does. Violet can generate a near-indestructible, purple-tinged force field around herself or other targets, which she has used defensively or, with the right help, offensively.

While exceedingly sturdy, if very heavy blunt force is applied to Violet's force field, she can be slammed against the side and injured. In the film, the final Omnidroid hits her in the head, knocking her unconscious and dissipating her force field, which leaves her vulnerable to attacks. Both her powers can also sap her physical energy if she tries to maintain them under sustained heavy assault (as seen in A Magic Kingdom Adventure).

Role in the Crossover[]

Much like her brother, fanart has involved Violet with the Big Four (albeit very loosely). She is part of the Modern Four.

Relationships[]

Big Four[]

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]

On the surface, it doesn’t appear that the Dragon Rider and teen superheroine would have much in common, but there are some similarities spotted between the two. First film Hiccup, much like Violet, was a gangly, awkward teenager with a sarcastic streak who didn’t necessarily fit in with his peers and was often restricted by his environment from using his natural talents (in this case, taming dragons). Adding to this, he also had to deal with a parent who expected him to hide away the special parts of himself that wasn’t generally approved of in their world (albeit while Stoick was harsher in his approach and didn’t actually listen to his son, for either his sake or the village’s, out of misguidance and pride, Helen at least understood how Violet felt and was only doing the best she could to protect her from the genuine ramifications that could come from their family being exposed, as it was under government law at the time), which could potentially give the current Hiccup common ground with Violet to bond over. However, with Hiccup having learned how to mature past this stature and become an hero in his own right, this could potentially inspire Violet to grow more confident in herself, as well as give her a motive to admire and respect Hiccup (which, given his popular status and attractive looks as an adult, could develop into a precocious crush on Violet’s end). Hiccup, meanwhile, would be impressed with Violet’s powers, and would try to encourage her to embrace her superhero lifestyle, albeit within reason.

Jack Frost[]

Jack Frost was lonely because nobody believed in him while Violet was an awkward, shy girl. She doesn't have a lot of friends in school. Jack wanted to be seen and believed in while Violet wanted to be noticed. They were both invisible in a sense. In the beginning of the movie, Rise of the Guardians, Jack was isolated and he had no one else he could to talk because nobody saw him. No one could touch him and hear him. Violet felt invisible and just wanted a friend. They'd be able to relate to each other because of their loneliness. At first, Violet most likely wouldn't believe in Jack and would think that it was childish to believe in a fairy tale, but given the circumstances of whichever world they are placed in, there is a chance she would start to. If she does see him, then it’s speculated that Jack would be there by her side and when she's seen talking to him, others couldn't see him. Jack’s playful nature could also balance out Violet’s introversion, although it would remind her of Dash quite often, to her annoyance. Adding to this, Violet would probably recognize Jack’s power as being in alignment with Frozone’s.

Their ship name is Jacklet.

Merida DunBroch[]

Merida’s feisty and outspoken nature may clash with Violet’s more introverted and shy personality, but they both share the trait of being protective over their families and unwillingness to sit on the sidelines when called into action. While Merida may be older than Violet, they are both still teenagers who go through a tumultuous emotional process like everyone else their age does, so they may be able to connect over this, and impart respective lessons they learned to each other (as Merida, a trained warrior and future ruler herself, could teach Violet to not rush head-first into danger not knowing her capabilities and limitations, while Violet, a teen who relies on a calmer template and is more perceptive than most people give her credit for, may be able to teach Merida patience in not letting her temper get the best of her).

Rapunzel Corona[]

Rapunzel and Violet do have a few similarities, but otherwise seem to act as respective foils to each other. While Rapunzel is an optimistic and extroverted go-getter who can naturally connect with people in spite of the disadvantages of being isolated for 18 years, Violet is a (pun-unintended) shrinking violet with a sarcastic and pessimistic outlook on life who was raised in society with a relatively healthy environment (barring her secret superhero family, of course) but (initially) has trouble fitting in. Additionally, they both have powers that fit the nature of their personas, but they only reflect the differences both girls have with each other, as while Rapunzel’s magic heals and brings light, Violet’s are purely for defense. Even their names, both aspects of nature, highlight this (“Rapunzel” is a type of lettuce that flourishes in the sun, and violets are small, delicate flowers that function primarily in the background). However, it is possible for a friendship to work between the two. While it may start off awkwardly with the girls’ clashing personalities, there is potential for the two to bring out better aspects into the other, similar to how the relationships listed above would. Rapunzel could help in making Violet more comfortable/confident with her surroundings, as well as encouraging her to broaden her social circles. Violet, on the other hand, could bring perspective to Rapunzel’s life, such as teaching her to respect the privacy and emotional imbalances people will naturally have that Rapunzel won’t be able to force out with her optimism.

In some AU’s and cases, the two could balance each out as Sun & Moon, with Rapunzel (obviously) drawing power from the sun, and Violet from the moon (as her personality easily aligns more with the spiritual essence the moon is known for emitting).
