Vanaheim
Vanaheim is an island where dragons spend their golden years and are laid to rest. It is home to dragons known as Sentinels, that serve as the elderly dragons care takers and guardians of the island.
Location[]
The island of Vanaheim (appropriately) is located on the very edge of the Barbaric Archipelago.
Characteristics[]
Vanaheim contains peaks and plateaus of light-colored rock, grass, and trees. It is home to the edible Vanaheim Fruit. It also contains dragon tombs organized by species, tended to by the resident Sentinel dragons.
Viewing the island from afar, the topography strongly resembles the skeleton of an enormous deceased dragon, specifically a Bewilderbeast; which could have been the first dragon to make other dragons use this island as their final resting place.
Lore[]
In the Norse legends, Vanaheim is an Old Norse world where the Vanir tribe of gods live, and is associated with nature. Its character is believed to be chaotic, and wild as it is outside the fortified worlds of humanity.
While in the DreamWorks Dragons: Race to the Edge series, it is a graveyard for dragons as they make the island their home while enjoying their golden years. The blind Sentinel dragons make sure that the ill and elderly dragons were looked after and they don't leave the island. When Oswald came shipwrecked on Vanaheim, he made the island his new home and fought to defend sick and weak dragons from a pack of dragons that he called Grim Gnashers, up until his death. His remains were later buried by his son, Dagur and the Dragon Riders, that came to the island with him. When Dagur broke the new to his sister, Heather, she flew to the island so she could stay goodbye to their father.

Grave Dens[]
When a dragon dies the Sentinels place their remains in dens, that contain the bones of their kind. There is a den for each dragon species.
Oswald's Shack[]
When the former Berserker chief made the island his new home, he used the wreck of his ship to build a shack to live in. When Dagur came across his deceased father, he, Hiccup and Fishlegs buried his body outside the it.
