― Raya

Raya is the warrior princess of Kumandra's Heart Land and the titular protagonist of Raya and the Last Dragon.

Appearance[]

As a child Raya wore blue colored clothing, like the rest of the Heart land's people.

Personality[]

When first portrayed, Raya is a assertive, focused, and enthusiastic teenager determined to take over as the new Guardian of the Dragon Gem, and, as a very skilled fighter, is clever and knowledgeable in terms of battle. She is also a fan of the dragons, having admired them from a young age. However, she does not display much faith in the other tribes or her father’s dream of uniting Kumandra, as she (like the tribes) is quick to distrust someone from the opposite clan due to the world’s state. Despite this, she was willing to open up to her father’s advice and befriended Namaari because of this, easily getting along with her due to their similarities.

However, due to the tragic event that resulted in her father and her land being turned to stone by the Druun, along with her being betrayed by Namaari shortly after she began to see her as a friend she could connect with, Raya build walls that keeps her from trusting others, even though her father had asked Raya to not blame the other clans for what their greed have done to them and the world, and shows a fear of opening up to other people in case they may betray her. She also displays a lack of faith in humanity as a whole, as she is mainly trusting only of her animal friends and describes the people of Kumandra as “being humans” when they fought over the Dragon Gem in ancient times.

Despite this, Raya is generally friendly towards the ones she does trust (Tuk Tuk and Sisu), and displays some hope that she can restore her father, even though she has no faith that the whole world can change. However, she can be very serious when confronted with an enemy, and will not hesitate to fight them off.

As the end of her adventure nears, Raya begins to learn the value in placing trust in other people, especially when Sisu is accidentally killed due to Namaari and Raya’s fallout. She finally realizes that, in order to trust people, she must put in the effort to take the first step, an act that finally restores Kumandra.

Powers and Abilities[]

While Raya doesn't seem to have any magical abilities or powers, she is seen to possess skills in combat and martial arts from when she was trained to become a guardian of the Dragon Gem at a young age.

Raya wields a sword that can also acts as a whip, she also has Kali sticks on hand from her training days before the Druun returned. While using her shard of the Dragon Gem as a means to keep the Druun from turning her to stone, and after she finds Sisu she learns that the shard she was able to get her hands on as a child holds the glow power of Sisu's sister, Amber.
