Demon AU (also called Devil AU and Demonic AU) is an AU (Alternate Universe) within the Rise of the Brave Tangled Dragons fandom. In the AU, Rapunzel, Merida, Hiccup and Jack Frost are portrayed as demons. Because it is not canon, ideas for this AU are shown through fanfiction, fanart, and other fan-made works. This can be considered an offshoot to Monster AU and Dark AU.
About the AU[]
In this AU, the Big Four - or at least select members - are portrayed as demons and devils; demonic beings notable for possessing horns on their heads, pointed arrowhead tails and giant bat-like wings on their backs (not to be confused with Gargoyles). They could also be featured as people who have summoned demons from their realm into theirs, have found themselves being tangled up with one - as there have been a few known demon related franchises that have them as charmers, tricking mortals into making deals with them or have taken an interest in the humans they've came across - or as people who hunt and exorcise demons, like an exorcist. That is why some of the AU's fanwork has a church setting or have the demon cast character with a person who has ties to the Catholic faith. How this plays in the narrative differs between sources.
Because demons and demonic-like beings are already involved in the fandom, such a concept is not completely random.
Due to the times when demons are depicted beside angels, who are viewed as their positive counterparts, fans like to consider this AU an alternative to Angel AU. As well as Vampire AU, from how a few known versions of Dracula's story that has him turning to the lord of hell after turning his back on God and heaven or makes a deal with the devil in order to gain his second chance of life as a type of monster. Along with there being people who view vampires as devils.

Featured Characters[]
The Big Four[]
Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III[]
Hiccup is commonly cast as a Demon or Devil whenever Jack is portrayed as his angel lover or friend for the Hijack pairing. As there have been several Demon-Angel franchises that have the two winged beings as forbitten lovers or friends, there is also the fact that both devils/demons and a few types of dragons like Night Furies have bat-like wings. Which is one of the reasons why some have featured Hiccup as a type of Dragon Demon, with Night Fury-like features as part of his half human-dragon demon form; since demons have the power to change their appearance from a type of monster to a human.
While the times when Hiccup has been placed as a type of monster hunt in monster related AUs, like the vampire and werewolf AUs, he could also be placed as a Demon Hunter or Exorcist. Who later learns that not all demons are bad. There have even been occasions when Hiccup is portrayed as someone who summons a demon into the mortal realm.
Jack Frost[]
Jack's ice powers can easily have him as a type of Ice Demon, since some cultures have classed demons as a type of spirit. Just as his duty as a Guardian of Childhood would have him as a Demon Hunter or Exorcist. Who was trained by the Guardians to protect mankind from them.
Merida DunBroch[]
Merida facing a dangerous animal that was given the nick-name of the "Demon Bear", fans could have her as a Demon Hunter or Exorcist.
Rapunzel Corona[]
Rapunzel's experience from preventing one of Zhan Tiri's earlier escape attempts in "Painter's Block", before she finally defeats the demon with the very powers she long craved for, Rapunzel can easily be portrayed as a Demon Hunter or Exorcist. Even though Rapunzel is more often depicted as an angel than a type of entity from hell, there have been rare occasions where she has been featured as a Demon or Devil.
Extra Characters[]
Te Fiti[]
This AU can focus on Te Fiti's lava demon persona, Te Kā (similar to how the Gods AU focuses on her more friendly Island Goddess persona).
Mor'du[]
Mor'du being known as the demon bear can have him be featured as one in this AU.
Zhan Tiri[]
This AU can focus on Zhan Tiri's demonic form that has been featured in the shadows before finally making a physical appearance in the series finale of the Tangled TV series. Like some well known demons and devils, Zhan Tiri, as the mystiques enchanted ghost girl, sets events that allows her to trick Cassandra into becoming her personal puppet, as well as her having Cass forming a type of deal with her.
Adrien Agreste[]
Adrien's Cat/Chat Noir persona has inspired fans to portray him as a Demon who has a few black cat-like features, and can turn himself into one. From how some well known demons are presented as shapeshifters who can turn themselves into a type of animal or human, for when they wish to blend in with the mortals. Along with how his Cat Noir self can have him reference demons who use their devilish charms on young women. Those who don't wish to use his hero persona as a base for demon Adrien, prefer to go with the more traditional bat-like wings and sharp horns for his demonic form.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng[]
Marinette is commonly cast between a Demon/Devil and as a human who has either summoned a black cat demon into the mortal realm or has caught the attention of the said demon.
Jim Lake Jr.[]
Jim's half-troll horns and fangs has inspired fans to portray him as a Demon. As most demons are commonly featured with sharp fangs and horns, while some Jlaire fans have Claire as the person who summons DemonJim into her mortal realm.
Xu Xuan/Sean[]
This AU can focus on Xuan's brief time as a Demon, as he allowed himself to be turned into one so he and Blanca can be together. After he died and Blanca manged to save his soul, however, he gets reincarnated back into a human again.
Kagami Tsurugi[]
This AU can focus on Kagami's rose demon persona, Oni-Chan. There is also the fact that Kagami's original home country, Japan is filled with myths and legends about demons, and commonly features them in the many amine and manga stories they have created.
Mei Lee[]
In Chinese myths demons start off as animals who later gain the ability to transform into a human, after living a certain amount of years, this fact and Mei being a Chinese-Canadian could possibly feature her as a Red Panda Demon.
